Step By Step Guide: How To Put Tape In Hair Extensions Yourself!
Posted By: Ace Hair Factory
Tape in hair extensions provide a convenient way to temporarily add hair length, volume or highlights to your natural hair. These non-permanent hair extensions install easily without the need for special heating tools, making them an excellent choice for DlY applications. To install them, you need to separate your hair and attach tape hair extensions one by one. Then how to put tape in hair extensions yourself, here are the step by step guide.
Be careful when wearing them, though, as they can easily tangle. To prevent tangles, brush your hair more often and spend more time in the shower.
1. Dividing Hair
a. Hairstylists recommend not using tape in hair extensionss on greasy hair. Wash your hair thoroughly and avoid using any products before adding extensions. Before applying hair extensions, follow your regular hair shampooing routine.
b. To use patch hair extensions, use a comb or your fingers to create a horizontal section about an inch from the nape of your neck. Hair extensions applied near this dividing line will be hidden by the upper layer of hair. Avoid installing extensions too close to your hairline and always leave enough hair in the front to hide the extensions.
c. Once you've created your parting line, use bobby pins or hair ties to securely part the hair above. Make sure all hair is fully secured during the extension process to prevent interference during the extension process.
d. To secure extensions with tape, take a small section of hair from under the parting line and sandwich it between the top and bottom extensions. Use a thin piece of hair, about 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) thick, so that the tape on the two hair extensions can stick together. Select a thin section of hair from below the parting line that is about the same length as one extension, making sure it is thin enough that your fingers can touch each other through the hair.
e. Measure the separate sections to determine how many tape in extensions you need to apply to each section of hair. Use a cloth tape measure to take precise measurements and repeat this process for each section of hair to ensure the correct number of extensions are needed for the entire head.
2.Extension Application
a. Start the application process by placing the bottom extensions underneath the thin strands. Gently lift the strands, remove the tape cover, and then gently
Press the bottom extensions under the lifted strands to secure them.
b. With the bottom extension in place, remove the tape cover of the top extension and place it on top of the hair bundle. The top and bottom extensions should be glued together. Press them with pliers for a few seconds to ensure a secure connection and prevent them from slipping or falling off. If the extensions don't stick, you may be using too much hair in the strands. Gently remove some hair from the bottom extension to help the tape adhere properly.
c. Repeat these steps by moving your side part until all extensions are attached. The number of extensions needed depends on the size of your head, and you may need around five extensions or more to get the volume you want. Add extensions evenly, avoiding overcrowding, for a natural look. Once all the extensions are in place, style them however you want and enjoy your new voluminous hairstyle.
For those with a thin hairline, leave 1 inch (2.5 cm) of hair along the entire hairline before adding extensions. This provides enough hair density to cover the tape, resulting in a more natural look and a fuller, voluminous appearance.
3. Proper hair care after using tape-in hair extensions
a. To keep your hair healthy and tangle-free after using tape-in hair extensions, take extra care. Hairstylists recommend braiding your hair to prevent tangles and brushing your hair daily. Hair extensions add extra weight to the scalp and hair, increasing the risk of tangles. Allocate extra time to your morning hair care routine, giving yourself 10 to 15 minutes to prep and maintain the look of your hair.
b. Be thorough and careful when cleaning tape-in hair extensions. Apply shampoo to your fingertips and go over each extension to make sure all debris is removed, including any caught between each extension. After washing, use conditioner, focusing on hair shaft to ends, avoiding the roots. Following these steps will keep your hair extensions clean and healthy, preventing damage or tangles caused by improper washing.
If swimming with tape-in hair extensions, shower beforehand to protect your hair and make sure it absorbs clean water. Apply conditioner to your hair to protect it from harsh chemicals in pool or salt water that can cause dryness or discoloration due to chlorine.
c. Brush your hair regularly while wearing tape-in hair extensions to prevent tangles and maintain a natural look. Brush your hair at least twice a day to keep it fresh and well-maintained. Treat your extensions with care as if they were your own hair to ensure they stay in good condition.
To prevent tape in hair extensions from tangling overnight, secure your hair before going to bed. Tie your hair into a ponytail to reduce tangles. Additionally, sleeping on a silk pillow can reduce hair extension breakage because silk's soft, smooth texture doesn't grab your hair as tightly as other materials. Following these guidelines will help maintain the appearance of your hair extensions and prevent them from getting damaged or tangled while you sleep.
